Many of you know Colby and I are in the process of moving back to Florida. We’re waiting for someone to buy our house so we can move back to Florida where our friends and my family live. I’ve grown very antsy and rather intolerant of waiting (patience is not one of my virtues). I knew it was going to take awhile to sell our house but the more days that go by that I don’t see the sun, the more I grow weary of it.
Colby went to Starved Rock today with one of his friends and our dogs so I have the house completely to myself, as is usual during the week since I work at home for my day job. I really wanted to get out and shoot today but since we share a car, and he took it, I had to go somewhere close. I realized about a month ago that this run down, red barn, close to the entrance of our neighborhood appeared to be abandoned. I’ve taken photos of it from a distance before and thought it would be close enough to walk to and take photos of. It turned into so much more than just a cool place to take photos. I realized the reason I hate it so much here is because everything is just dead out here. The city (Chicago) is different but out “yonder” there is nothing but dead plants and run down barns. It’s rather depressing. This sorta turned into a little project for me. I wanted to show the desolate, run down, depressing scenery that surrounds us suburbanites for too many months out of the year. Of all the dead, dry, ground and weeds around I did notice one thing thriving as I walked back up to the house. My tulips were beginning to grow, but soon they will be dead. They usually bloom and die by May…
